The Bridal Trial

I often get asked when people enquire about wedding makeup if a trial is necessary, for me as a bridal makeup artist, I believe that all brides should have a trial before the big day. Bridal party trials aren’t always necessary as the bride can tell me her ideas for the bridal party at her trial, along with showing me images of the preferred look. However, if a member of the bridal party has a specific concern or look that they want to achieve on the day a trial is great to ensure that their wishes are met.

I recommend that the bridal trial is booked 2-3 months before the wedding day, by this point colour schemes and dresses will generally have been decided on – meaning we can create a makeup look based around these elements. I always send my brides a pre-trial checklist before the trial, this explains what to bring with you and what clothes to wear etc – ensuring that the bride is fully prepared.

I set aside a minimum of two hours for the bridal trial, this allows me to work through all of my brides makeup questions and to assist the bride in filling out a questionnaire discussing their makeup style and ideas. Once this is completed, I then begin creating the makeup look, including the bride in each stage of the process and allowing for any changes/additions throughout. Once both I and the bride are happy with the finished look, I will take pictures as a reference for the day, along with writing a full makeup product list to make sure that recreating the look on the day is an easy experience.

Bridal makeup is such an important part of the wedding day, therefore, taking the time to have a trial is so worth it as it will guarantee that you are completely happy on the day of the wedding. See below some images of trial makeup and then the finished look on the wedding day!
